Project Choice

After discussing with my group members, we have decided to do the film project. We believe that after the films we have watched and discussions we've had that we possess the skills necessary to successfully complete the film project. I decided to work in a group because I am the kind of student that works best in collaborations. I like to discuss and have my opinions and ideas challenged by my peers as well as challenge theirs. Personally, I feel as though conversation there is more room for development of ideas and ultimately creates a better result. I have chosen to work with Sienna and Angelica. Sienna has experience with photography and has a creative eye. I believe she can add in her ideas to help improve the aesthetics and decide camera shots. Angelica is tech savvy and can help with editing. I feel as though she will have interesting editing suggestions and help to make our transitions between shots smooth. I personally possess the same artistic skill as Sienna and enjoy editing. Collaboratively we will produce a quality film opening by combining our talents and ideas.

I D E A S :

We were discussing possible genres for our film and are in-between comedy and horror. Both are very different but seem interesting. We will most likely end up creating a light-hearted comedy film. Sienna mentioned she has friends who are in the circus and also in drama. The skills they have will help to improve our film.

Project Selection- Film

Based on what we have watched and discussed in class the film project would be a good fit. By watching Nixon by Nixon and All the President's Men I was exposed to the more risky side of journalism. The way they were trying to collect information and get sources was a little dangerous and required dedication. They had to continuously pursue their sources and drill them for on the record information. We also watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off and that immersed us into the film making aspects of production. After and during the film we discussed some of the decisions made by the producers and why. Also, we watched the video of the comments made by the film makers and in that they explained their reasoning behind their decisions and what effect they had on the film. I feel that after watching and discussing what we have in class, I have the skills necessary to successfully complete the film project.

Project Selection- Magazine

The magazine project might be a good fit for me. I have gained the skills and knowledge that I need to complete the project. By watching All the President's Men, we were exposed to the inner workings of print journalism and that would be an advantage to me. When we were watching The Newsroom, we were able to see more about journalism and what all went into collecting information, gaining on the record sources and also getting sources to confirm new information. I believe that with these skills  I would be able to successfully complete the magazine project. In class we also discussed the rule of thirds and different camera shots. This would be helpful for the photography that goes into the magazine. However, I also feel as though the magazine project doesn't allow enough room for creativity. If I were to complete the magazine project I would feel restrained and limited.
